Nonchemical techniques are used to reduce cockroach populations with the goal of minimizing the amount of insecticide treatments that may be necessary to eventually eliminate a cockroach infestation.

Such techniques are important in situations where insecticide applications may not be permitted or recommended, and nonchemical methods may comprise the majority of the control efforts used. Examples include animal enclosures in zoos, pet shops, research animal facilities, clean rooms on pharmaceutical production, sterile areas in hospitals, and intensive care units.
